The perfect way to spice up your meatless monday burger night!

If you’re looking for a flavor-packed plant based burger patty option, this recipe is for you! These are suuuuper simple and affordable to make. You can even make a huge batch and freeze it for many meatless mondays to come. The green chile adds a great mild flavor and kick (look for the instruction on where to add hot sauce if you’re looking for a little extra spice 😉) and some great moisture as well.

These are super yummy when topped with red onion, lettuce, vegan cheese (I personally love Chao cheese from Field Roast), and your favorite condiments of choice! The perfect way to spice up your meatless monday burger night!

Prep Time: 15 mins – Cook Time: 10-12 mins – Yield: 4-5 large patties

Ingredients:

– 3 cloves garlic; minced

– 1/2 a large yellow onion; diced

– 2 tbsp vegetable oil

– 1 flax egg (1 tbsp flax seed meal + 3 tbsp water)

– 2 cups black beans

– 1/2+ cups flour (you’ll start with 1/2 cup and work your way up to the proper consistency) (I used all purpose wheat)

– 1/2 cup chopped green chile (I used flame-roasted chiles from a jar)

– 1/2 tsp salt

– hot sauce to taste (optional)

Instructions:

  1. To a frying pan on medium-high heat, add vegetable oil, garlic, and onion.
  2. Stir occasionally until the onion is translucent.
  3. While the onion and garlic are cooking, mix your flax and water in a small bowl and set aside.
  4. Also while the garlic and onion are cooking, add your black beans to a food processor or blender and pulse until some beans are still whole but most are broken into almost a paste.
  5. Once the garlic and onion are done cooking, add them to a large bowl along with the beans, flax egg, green chile, salt, optional hot sauce (I suggest starting with 1-2 tbsp), and 1/2 cup of flour.
  6. Stir and assess your consistency. If the mixture is very sticky, add more flour until it is able to be formed into patties.
  7. Once your patty mixture is able to be formed into patties without sticking to your hands, form it into patties (should make 4-5 large patties or around 10 sliders).
  8. Then, place your patties into a pan on medium heat (feel free to add more oil to the pan if desired) and cook for about 5-6 mins on each side, or until the patties are browned on the outside and hot all the way through.
  9. Remove from the pan once cooked and enjoy!
