Perfectly tender cauliflower coated in a sweet, garlicy, and gingery glaze!
I’ve been seeing the cauliflower wings trend going around the food blog scene a lot recently. But, I’m not really a fan of wings or buffalo sauce, so I decided I would use cauliflower in another fun way (besides these awesome cauliflower steaks): teriyaki cauliflower bites! When I was younger, I used to go to this tiny local teriyaki restaurant and order the miso soup and teriyaki chicken (this was before I went vegan) every single weekend for about a year or two. I don’t live in that town anymore and don’t eat chicken anymore, so I needed to find a way to recreate that amazing and nostalgic experience. Teriyaki cauliflower was the answer!
In the wise words of my father when trying these teriyaki cauliflower bites for the first time: “This cauliflower is frickin’ good!”, and I think that speaks volumes 🤣, especially since he’s not even plant based!
For this recipe, I used my own homemade teriyaki sauce (you can find the recipe here), but you can feel free to use store bought sauce if that is more convenient for you! Also, my favorite way to serve these is over a bed of rice and steamed broccoli with some of these tofu nuggets on the side (for some protein and crunch), but again, do whatever floats your boat!
These teriyaki cauliflower bites:
– are a crossroads between sweet, tangy, and umami
– taste like they’re fresh from my childhood favorite restaurant
– are so much fun to make
– and help you get those veggies in without even noticing!

Vegan Teriyaki Cauliflower Bites
Perfectly tender cauliflower coated in a sweet, garlicy, and gingery glaze!
Prep Time: 15 minutes – Cook Time: 15 minutes – Yield: ~20 pieces (2-4 servings)
Ingredients:
– 1 head of cauliflower
– 3/4 cup flour
– 1/4 cup corn starch
– 3/4 cup water + more if needed
– pinch of salt
– pinch of pepper
– 3+ tbsp vegetable oil
– 1 cup teriyaki sauce (click to go to my homemade teriyaki sauce recipe)
– sesame seeds to garnish
Instructions:
- Cut your head of cauliflower into bite-sized pieces and set aside.
- Now, in a medium sized bowl, mix together your flour, corn starch, salt, and pepper.
- Then, add 3/4 cup of water and stir. Keep adding more water (1 tbsp at a time) until your batter has reached pancake batter consistency.
- Next, add enough vegetable oil to a large pan on medium heat to cover the entire surface of the pan.
- Now, dip a piece of cauliflower into the batter (let drip for a few seconds to remove excess batter) and place in the pan. Repeat with all of the pieces of cauliflower.
- While the cauliflower is cooking, make your teriyaki sauce.
- Once the bottoms of the cauliflower pieces start to brown and get crispy (about 6-7 minutes), flip the pieces over and let the other side get crispy too.
- Once the cauliflower is crispy and browned on both sides, transfer the pieces to a large bowl.
- Add the teriyaki sauce to the large bowl too and toss until all of the cauliflower pieces are evenly coated with sauce.
- Voila, you now have your teriyaki cauliflower bites! Top them with some sesame seeds and serve them over some steamed rice and broccoli (or whatever sides you like)!
