Nutty Chai Latte (vegan & dairy free)

The perfect cozy and flavor-packed latte for cold winter mornings!

As someone who doesn’t drink caffeine, chai latte’s are my best friend (not all chai is decaf, but the one I buy is). It also helps that ginger, cardamom, and cinnamon are some of my all-time favorite flavors. Plain chai can get a bit boring, so I created this recipe to make it more creamy, flavorful, and sweet! I have to give credit where credit is due and say that my inspiration for this recipe is from Rainbow Plant Life’s (@rainbowplantlife on IG) almond butter latte. But, this most definitely has my own personal spin!

Many dairy drinkers are weary that latte’s will be boring and flat without cows milk. But, thankfully for those of us who don’t consume dairy, that’s simply not true! Plant-based and dairy-free milks can be super creamy, delicious, and foam-able. The proof is in the pudding with this recipe!

This nutty chai latte…

– only takes 10-12 minutes to make,

– is packed full of strong flavors,

– has complex nutty notes,

– and is super creamy and frothy!

Nutty Chai Latte (vegan & dairy free)

The perfect cozy and flavor-packed latte for cold winter mornings!

Prep Time: 3 mins – Cook Time: 7-10 mins – Yield: 2 lattes

Ingredients:

– 1 1/2 cups soy milk (or dairy-free milk of choice)

– 1 tbsp peanut butter (or nut butter of choice)

– 2 large dates; pitted

– 2 cinnamon sticks*

– 1″ chunk of fresh ginger; peeled

– 2 cups water

– 2 chai tea bags

Instructions:

  1. Add milk, nut butter, dates, cinnamon sticks, and ginger to a pot on medium heat.
  2. Bring to a boil and simmer for 7-10 mins.
  3. Meanwhile, boil the water and brew the chai tea bags.
  4. Once the milk mixture is done simmering, remove the cinnamon sticks and pour the mixture into a blender.**
  5. Blend on high speed until smooth and frothy.
  6. Then, pour your tea (with the tea bags removed) into two mugs and then pour half of the milky mixture into each mug.
  7. Top with a sprinkle of cinnamon and adjust the sweetness (if desired) with a dash of maple syrup or pinch of sugar.
  8. Enjoy!

* If you don’t have cinnamon sticks, you can feel free to use 2 tsp of ground cinnamon

* If your blender has a steam hole/opening at the top, leave it open and place a light towel over the lid so that some steam can escape. If it doesn’t have a steam hole, you may want to wait 2-3 mins before blending so that the steam doesn’t get locked in and burst
