Vegan Pizza w/ Fluffy Homemade Crust

The best vegan Friday-night pizza for some me-time, or a great party activity!

I don’t know about you, but as a kid my favorite birthday party activity was making homemade pizzas! I always thought it tasted better than from the restaurant, and it was of course so much fun! Revive your inner-child with this fun recipe, and customize it to whatever toppings you like (and whatever amount you like, this isn’t a restaurant that charges $5 for an extra sprinkle of oregano)!

If you’re a thin-crust lover, this recipe might not be right up your alley. But, if you’re like me and loooove thick and fluffy crusts, you’re in luck! I am a crust-lover and always get a side of pizza sauce so that I can dip my crusts like bread sticks (pizza restaurant life hack, you’re welcome 🤣).

This pizza is:

– 100% customizeable

– a super fun party activity

– tastes out of this world

– and is completely vegan and dairy free!

Vegan Pizza w/ Fluffy Homemade Crust

Your go-to Friday night dinner that always hits the spot!

Prep Time: 10 mins (+ 1hr of refrigeration) – Cook Time: 25 mins – Yield: 1 10″ pizza

Ingredients (crust) :

– 2 cups all-purpose flour

– 1/2 tsp sugar

– 1/2 tbsp yeast

– 1 tsp salt

– 3/4 cup warm water

– 1 tbsp olive oil

– 2 tbsp semolina flour

Ingredients (toppings):

– 3/4 cup (more or less, to-taste) pizza sauce

– 5 tbsp pesto (optional)

– 1 vegan sausage; sliced (optional)

– Miyoko’s (or whatever brand you desire; or homemade) vegan mozzarella cheese (approx. 1/3 of the wheel)

– any additional toppings of choice, I like red onion, pineapple, and bell peppers

Instructions:

  1. In a small bowl, combine the water (MUST be warm), sugar, and yeast. Lightly stir and let sit for 5 mins.
  2. While that’s sitting, add the flour and salt to a large bowl.
  3. Once the yeast mixture has sat for 5 mins, add that to the bowl of dry ingredients along with the olive oil.
  4. Mix until combined, roll into a ball, and cover the bowl with a towel and place it in the fridge for 1 hour.
  5. After that hour, remove the dough from the fridge and preheat the oven to 400°. On a floured surface use your hands or a rolling pin to flatten the dough into an (approximately) ~9-10″ disk.
  6. Place your dough disk onto a baking sheet, cooling rack, or pizza stone. Then, sprinkle the semolina flour evenly on the pizza dough. Then, flip the disk over so that the semolina side is on the bottom.
  7. Next, you’ll just want to add all of your toppings of choice. Spread the sauce with the back of a spoon, dollop the pesto, and place all of the other toppings in your arrangement of choice.
  8. Once topped, place your pizza in the oven for ~25 mins, or until the cheese has melted and the crust is no longer doughy on the inside.
  9. Let cool for 2-3 mins, slice, and serve! Enjoy!
